Lukia Nakiranda’S Group's story

Lukia is a leader of 5 members of a group. She is a 46-year-old married woman with 5 children, aged between 29 and 21. Three of her children go to school. Lukia doesn’t take care of any additional family members. She is a very responsible member within her group. She resides in and owns a 3-room house, where she is staying with 4 people. They have electricity but no piped water at home.

The family gets 3 meals a day. She resides and works in a semi-urban area that is on the outskirts of Kampala. Lukia sells bricks at her home. She buys these blocks from different areas and uses a lorry to bring them to her home. She sells to all categories of people, both wholesale and retail.

Her main challenges are water, thieves, and defaulters. Lukia works 7 days a week and has been with MCDT for 9 years, servicing her eighteenth loan. She wants to use this loan to expand her business and aspires to build rental rooms.
