A loan of $200 helped to buy compost and fertilizer to grow the maize he has planted.

Alexander's story

Alexander is 42 years old. He did not attend school because there wasn't one close to where he lived, but bit by bit he fought on and was able to learn to read and write. His spouse is a homemaker and looks after their two children, of whom only one daughter goes to school.

Alexander does different types of work. He works in agriculture and he works at city hall. He also collects all of the iron and bronze metal he can find in order to sell it later. Also, when he doesn't have work, he sells atol (a masa-based drink) on buses that go between cities. He learned all of this out the need to bring home an income.

He has planted a hectare of maize. His work is close to home and he gets there on foot. He works from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Alexander will invest this loan in compost and fertilizer for the maize crops that he has already planted. Alexander hopes to continue working and moving forward in order to support his family.
