A loan of $1,050 helped buy a motorcycle so she can more easily deliver orders and extend her territory.

Mayra Alejandra's story

There are certain jobs that, although they seem unproductive, have to be done. Farming and raising livestock are often undertaken by poor people who have little capital to invest in their businesses. Mayra is such a person--she sells fish.

She learned about selling fish from her father and as a result is able to support her 9-year old son. Because of the size of the area she covers and her well-known name, Mayra is sought out by her customers. For this reason she wishes to take out a loan to buy a motorcycle so she can more easily deliver orders and extend her territory, thus establishing herself as a smart businesswoman with a successful fish-selling business.
