A loan of $175 helped to pay for efficient and clean cooking energy from Liquefied Petroleum Gas.

Edwin's story

Edwin works in the Forex bureau in the city but lives in the peri-urban areas of Kampala. He uses charcoal and sometimes kerosene for his cooking needs. He says that usually in the morning, he uses kerosene for preparing breakfast but most of the time he is discouraged from using it because it is dirty. It produces a lot of soot on the saucepans and in the house.

So more often, Edwin does not use kerosene. Instead, he leaves for work without having breakfast. And on his return from work, he uses charcoal because he feels in comparison to kerosene, charcoal is cheaper. However, charcoal is not efficient in cooking food, especially after spending long hours in a traffic jam.

Edwin has known about Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) but due to the high cost of buying a complete set, he has not managed to acquire one.

Edwin is very pleased with the Kiva loan, which will help him acquire cooking gas as this will help him to own a modern, efficient and clean cooking energy.
