A loan of $3,075 helped a member to buy condiments wholesale.

Amigas Por Siempre Unidas Group's story

The "Amigas Por Siempre Unidas" [Friends Forever United] community bank will begin its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the regional hub of Juan Pablo. It is made up of eight members and led by a board of directors with Sofia as the president. The businesses which the members of the community bank pursue vary and among them are: an embroidery shop, the sale of sweets, a butcher shop, blanket weaving, food sales and the sale of condiments. The loan they will take out will benefit small business entrepreneurs, such as Sofia. She notes that this is her first time joining Pro Mujer. She joined at the invitation of a promoter from the institution who went to her area and formed a group. She currently has a business selling condiments. She opened this business several years ago when she observed that these products were very marketable. The loan she now wants to take out is to increase her capital (purchasing condiments wholesale) which she will acquire from the street markets in the city of El Alto. She will then prepare and sell out of her place of business. This type of work allows her to generate funds to support her family since she is in a common law marriage and has three children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer she answers that she likes the health aspect and the workshops offered by the institution.
