Benkadi Group's story

The Benkadi Group is made up of married women with an average age of 36 and three children each. They all live within the frameworks of traditional families in the village of Konobougou, in the commune of Konobougou, Baroueli Prefecture, Ségou Region (the fourth administrative area of the Republic of Mali). They all know each other through the bonds of family, community and friendship. They work in the restaurant business and in the commerce of condiments, smoked fish, wood, shoes and plastic bags.

This will be the eighth loan for the women of the Benkadi Group. In order to satisfy the enormous demand from their customers, they have turned to Soro Yiriwaso. The requested loan amount will go towards the aforementioned merchandise.

Ina, the woman standing second from the left in the photo, is illiterate. She currently sells plastic shoes. She plans on buying 120 pairs of shoes from the wholesalers in Bamako. She sells her stock for cash out of her own home and at market to a mixed customer base. She plans on making a monthly profit of 80,000 FCFA, which will be reinvested into her business.
