Yolanda's story

Yolanda is 33, went to 3rd grade of secondary school, lives with her partner, has four small children, lives in Jr. Ica, district of Ilave, province of El Collao, Puno and has been a member of the community bank “ San Miguel” for a year. At the beginning, with a $100 loan, she bought vegetables, potatoes, meat, etc, to continue preparing food. She has worked on this business for a few years. Her parents didn’t have the means and that’s why she couldn’t finish secondary school and that forced her to work since she was 20. At that age she started selling food in the market and at 26 she started a home and continued with the business, she decided to keep going. With this loan of $275, to be repaid in three months, she will buy rice, vegetables, meat, oil, sugar, gas, etc. “Thanks to the loans from the community banks we can keep going and we don’t depend on our husbands anymore”, said Yolanda. Her biggest wish is to have a restaurant and that her children become professionals.
