Mariama's story

Mariama, 23 years old, is from Waterloo Western rural in Freetown. She is married and has 1 child. In 2002, Mariama established her food stand business because she wanted to create a source of income instead of depending on her husband. She works at the business from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. She says that, despite the hardship, she desires to educate her daughter. Mariama requires a loan in order to purchase more palm oil and native rice to expand her business. She hopes that the extra income from this loan will allow her to open a savings account and increase her business. In the future, Mariama plans to expand her business more than ever.
