A loan of $775 helped to buy more bitenge textile for his two shops.

Edison's story

Edison T., 33, is a member of the Tuwoda group in Kamwokya. He is married with 5 children, all in school. He has a tailoring business where he works with his wife and together they make “bitenge” traditional wear for sale. He started by getting small loans for his business and over time, he has been able to develop his business.

His wife has started teaching young girls the same trade by teaching sewing skills, independence and self-esteem, as it is very good for them to have a skill if they don't get formal education, so as to avoid being very vulnerable. The length of the girls' stay with Edison’s wife will depend on how quickly they can grasp what is taught to them and this determines their fees.

Recently, Edison opened up another store in Kisenyi Bus Park in the middle of Kampala city for his business expansion. The two shops will help to better Edison’s family’s future.
