A loan of $1,550 helped to buy additional land and increase the harvest.

Ilxas's story

Ilxas is 32-year-old refugee. He is married and has two daughters. His wife is a housekeeper and the family lives in an IDP settlement. Ilxas has been working as a farmer for 11 years. He raises seasonal fruits (peaches, pears, plums, and cherry-plums) and vegetables (onions, potatoes, tomatoes, and cucumber). His monthly income is 180 AZN but he gets additional earnings working as a laborer or driver in his free time. Fresh fruits and vegetables are in high demand in Azerbaijan. They use fruits for tasty sweets, fruit salads, and juice and use vegetables for national dishes. Ilxas raises the fruit and sells it at the local bazaar or supplies different local cafes and restaurants.

The income from farming doesn’t cover his family’s needs. He wants to increase his income. He applied for a 1,200 AZN loan in order to buy additional land and increase the harvest.
