A loan of $1,025 helped to purchase fish.

Maritza Elizabeth's story

In the Crucita parish of the Portoviejo canton, there is a place known as the sandy area. Here, the members of the "Nueva Generacion" credit group meet every 15 days. This area is known for its food and for the quality of the people.

Maritza lives here. She is 32 years old, in a common law marriage, and has three children, ages 12, 11 and 4. The oldest is in high school and the younger ones also attend school. Her husband is a fisherman.

Maritza is a very hardworking woman. Like many women in the area, she makes a living by purchasing and selling pinchaguas, a type of fish. She goes to the places where the fisherman bring the fruits of their labor to purchase this fish, which is very common on the shores of the area, so that she can later take them home, clean them, and fillet them. Later, she sells them individually or in groups. She sells them to customers who come to her house for this delicious food.

She has been working in this business for two years and has earned money for herself. This loan will be used to purchase fish. She has been in the credit group for 10 years and likes it because loans are very important for her. Her dream is to provide the best for her children.
