A loan of $1,300 helped to buy cow hide and chemical products.

Carmen Graciela's story

Every 15 days, the members of the credit group "La Alborada" meet in the Colon parish in the city of Portoviejo. This area is surrounded by vegetation and the people are not only very honest, but also hard-working.

This is where Carmen, 55, lives. She is married and has four grown up children. One of them still lives in their home. Her husband is a salesman.
They both make leather products, buying cow hide and processing it, tanning it with special liquids used for this work. Once the process is complete and it is dry, they sell the leather to traders in their area and in the mountain villages. These people then use it to make reins for horses, saddles and shoes. Her husband has been earning a living from this for more than 30 years.

This loan is to buy cow hide and chemical agents to tan the skin. She has been a member of this credit group since it started and she likes it because it helps them get on in business. They dream of having good health in the future.
