A loan of $950 helped a member to buy an auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle).

Uzma's Group's story

Uzma baji is the wife of Mr. A. and lives in a small area named Bund Road of City Lahore, Pakistan. Uzma baji couldn’t get an education because her parents couldn’t bear the expenses of her education. She got married at the age of 19. Uzma baji’s husband is a driver and drives a rented auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle). He has been driving this for the last 5 years. Uzma baji herself is a housewife and prefers to do household work and take care of her husband. She is applying for a loan to buy her own auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle).

She is joined in her loan group by a few more members. Razia baji wants a loan to buy groceries for her grocery shop. Nazia baji wants a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw. Shumaila baji wants a loan to buy fresh flowers to make bouquets for reselling purposes. Abida baji wants a loan to expand her vegetable-selling business.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.
