A loan helped buy grains, potatoes, flour, quinoa, etc.

Domitila's story

Mrs. Domitila is 64 years old, a widow, and the mother of 7 children, all of whom are now adults. She only studied until the third graD.. She lives on May 3rd St., No. 235, in the district of Ilave, province of El Collao, city of Puno. She is one of the founding members of the San Miguel Communal Bank in Ilave.

With her first loan of 300 soles ($100), she increased her capital to buy grains, potato flour, potatoes, quinoa, etc. She says she did not study more because her parents told her that women couldn’t study and that they should dedicate themselves to housework. When she was 20 years old, she had her first child and continued with her grain business, which she sold in the Ilave Market. Her husband passed away and left her alone to take care of her children. She continued selling her products and decided to keep moving forward with her children.

With this loan of 3000 soles ($975), which she will repay in 6 payments, she will buy more grains: such as 500 kg of potatoes, 70 kg of potato flour, quinoa, etc.

Her dream is that her children will have a better future and that they will be successful professionals.
