Alma

Honduras
Santa Barbara, Honduras / Agriculture

A loan of $1,475 helped to purchase agricultural supplies to help her coffee, corn and bean crops.

Alma's story

Doña Alma is 58 years old and completed primary school until the fourth grade. She is the mother of three children, who live at home and are involved in helping and maintaining her coffee, corn and bean crops since they are her only support and the basic grains they cultivate are her means of income.

Doña Alma has been involved in this work for many years because her parents taught her how to work in the fields from an early age. This was how her family earned their income. The land that she and her family cultivate is their own since they were able to acquire it with a lot of effort and sacrifice many years ago. It has paid off and enabled them to continue growing.

Her plans for the future as a coffee producer are to expand her crops through the purchase of land because in this way she will generate greater earnings for her family’s well-being and at the same time increase the family's assets. At this time she is asking to be supported financially in the purchase of agricultural supplies, which will assist with her crops of coffee, corn and beans by improving production at the end of the season and therefore her family’s earnings.
