A loan of $2,000 helped to purchase high yielding grafted cacao trees.

Erwin's story

Erwin is a new cacao farmer who lives in the beautiful village of Santa Elena, in the Toledo district of southern Belize. He sees cacao farming as a beneficial long-term investment for himself and his family. Erwin believes that cacao is a sustainable agricultural crop, that is both good for the environment, and will help develop his local community. He wants to secure a Kiva micro-loan so that he might expand his cacao farm by purchasing grafted, high-yielding, disease resistant cacao seedlings. He plans to use the revenue generated from his cacao crop to educate his children and improve his family’s lifestyle.
