Mrs. Yat S. is a 52-year-old widow who farms (she grows rice) for a living. Yat has five children, two of whom are married, while the other three children live at the family's home. Further, two children are goldsmiths, and one of the other children is a car driver for a private company. The income generated by her children generally supports the family's living expenses.

Even so, for another source of income, Yat is seeking a loan in the amount of US$500 to purchase rice and soy-beans to sell for profit. In this way, she believes that the requested loan will enable her to increase her family's income and standard of living.
