A loan of $500 helped a member to buy sugar and salt for the business.

Winnie's Group's story

Winnie's group is comprised of 2 hard working women. Winnie is 17 years old and lives in the town of Kisekende, which is in the Mubende region of Uganda. For the past 3 years, Winnie has worked hard to manage her retail shop which sells essential commodities.

To help expand her business, Winnie requests 600,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy sugar and salt for the business and will help Winnie to generate greater profits and add more capital to increase her sales.

Winnie hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land.

Winnie is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to micro-finance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
