A loan of $325 helped to buy more domestic animals such as goats to sell.

Anna's story

Anna is 20 years old and lives in the town of Natete in the Kampala west region of Uganda. For the past 1 1/2 years, Anna has been working hard to manage a cattle business selling domestic animals.

To help expand her business, Anna has requested a loan of 800,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy other domestic animals such as goats, to sell. It will help Anna to generate greater profits and own a poultry farm. Anna hopes that in the future, she will be able to have a business of her own, since she is helping her mother with the cattle business.

Anna is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
