A loan of $500 helped to purchase Sustainable Energy for All products to sell to women's groups at affordable prices.

Josephine's story

Josephine of The Montserrado Village Savings and Loan Association seeks a Kiva loan to purchase Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) products at wholesale and sell retail. Josephine is President of the Village Savings and Loan Association of Montserrado County, Monrovia, Liberia. The Association is a conglomerate of over 600 women's groups ranging from 25 - 30 members, who combine saving through small monthly membership fees, then make small micro-loans to their women entrepreneurs to pay back over time. Josephine also owns "Winning Business Center" in the city, where she has a tailor shop, sells water and other food snacks, and buys clothes wholesale in order to sell them retail.

Josephine will use her new Kiva loan to purchase 25 clean cookstoves at wholesale and resell them to her women's group at a very small markup. Josephine also wants to establish her credit with Kiva micro-loans so she can apply for business loans in the future.
