A loan of $175 helped to pay for a thermally efficient cooking gas package of Liquefied Petroleum Gas.

Agnes's story

Agnes is a resident of Nyanama on the outskirts of Kampala. She is a teacher by profession and married with two children. She works some 30 minutes away from home. Now, she notes, the journey that used to take her 30 minutes takes two hours. She attributes this to traffic jams.

She says that with the traffic jam and the cost of charcoal as well as the time it takes to cook food, she sometimes does not cook a proper meal. Instead, she sometimes uses kerosene to fry eggs or boil tea. But with the disadvantages of kerosene, she realizes that it is no longer an option to use as a kitchen energy alternative.

Agnes is seeking a loan to buy a Liquefied Petroleum Gas package. She notes that it is not easy to acquire an LPG package initially but in the long run the cost involved is much lower than if one used charcoal. A Kiva loan will enable Agnes to buy an LPG package so that she can eat healthy and cook enough food whenever she needs to eat.
