A loan of $2,025 helped to purchase high yielding, grafted cacao seedlings.

Juan's story

Juan is a new cacao farmer who lives in the beautiful village of Trio in the Toledo district of southern Belize. He is eager to join the cacao industry because he sees cacao farming as a beneficial, long-term investment for himself and his family. Juan believes that cacao is a sustainable agricultural crop that is both good for the environment and will help develop his local community. He wants to secure a Kiva microloan so that he might expand his cacao farm by purchasing grafted, high-yielding, disease resistant cacao seedlings. He plans to use the revenue generated from his cacao crop to educate his children and improve his family’s lifestyle.
