A loan of $2,100 helped to purchase high yielding grafted cacao trees.

Jose's story

Jose is a new cacao farmer who lives in the beautiful village of Trio, in the Toledo district of southern Belize. He sees cacao farming as a beneficial long-term investment for himself and his family. Jose believes that cacao is a sustainable agricultural crop that is good for the environment and will help develop his local community.

He wants to secure a Kiva microloan so that he might expand his cacao farm by purchasing grafted, high-yielding, disease resistant cacao seedlings. He plans to use the generated revenue from his cacao crop to educate his children and improve his family’s lifestyle.
