A loan of $1,500 helped to buy tables and chairs to make her customers comfortable and to buy another hopper for her mill.

Lucila Santos's story

Lucila is 50 years old, and never had the chance to study. She did, however, learn to read and write. She has a partner who is a farmer, and three children, who are already grown-up, so she loves alone with her partner.

Lucila has had a mill for 20 years. She also has a business selling pupusas, or traditional corn tortillas from El Salvador. She does both of these activities from home. She starts up her mill at 7 in the morning and stops at midday. She then works in her pupusa business between 5 and 8 in the evening.

She will use the loan to stock her pupusa business, buying tables and chairs to make her customers comfortable and for her mill, she will buy another hopper. She hopes that her business grows and that in the future, she can buy another mill, because the one she has at the moment is damaged.
