A loan of $3,875 helped to cover the costs of higher education.

Emely Altaracia's story

Emel Altagracia is a young medical student. She is requesting a loan to cover her educational costs. Here is her story: “My name is Emely. I am 20 years old. I am from La Vega, Dominican Republic. I live with my sister and two aunts. I am in the sixth cycle of medicine at la Universidad Católica y Tecnológica del Cibao (UCATECI) [the Catholic and Technological University of Cibao]. I am taking a degree in medicine because I have always liked to be part of improving and solving the problems of others. Moreover, there is a great affinity between this field and human value, solidarity, love and kindness.

My family is making a great sacrifice so that I can commit to all of this and also in order that I develop into a decent and useful member of society. However, this profession requires financing beyond our means and so I have come to all of you.

I also have a dream of establishing a charitable foundation that will help people who cannot afford the health services they need. I also want to give my family a better future and stability that will make them feel secure and protected.”
