A loan of $7,000 helped to install a special carpet for the kindergarten, purchase educational toys and games, and build a playground in the courtyard.

Huda's story

After five years of teaching in kindergartens, Huda built her self-confidence, gained experience, and saved money to achieve her dream of opening her own kindergarten.

A 36-year-old mother of five, Huda experienced firsthand the challenge of balancing work outside the home and childcare, a common challenge among women in her community. By providing safe and quality early learning environments for children, Huda is enabling women in her community to feel more comfortable about working outside of their homes. The income from her business helps her support her family, and she is also motivated by educating her town’s next generation.

Two years ago, with very little money and little support from her husband, and facing other challenges, Huda opened a private kindergarten and day care center. While many people did not believe in her potential for success, today her successful business gives her a sense of identity and a role within the community.

Huda’s business has created four job opportunities for community members, three of whom are for women, and hopes to employ more women as her business grows. Her growing business and willingness to learn and develop her business skills qualifies her to participate in the WLIFT program and take a SME loan from Relief International Microfinance Iraq in the amount of 7,000 USD. With the loan, she plans to install a special carpet for the kindergarten, purchase educational toys and games, and build a playground in the courtyard.
