A loan of $250 helped to buy palm oil in bulk (by the gallon).

Kadiatu's story

Hello, this is Kadiatu, a business woman from Waterloo2 in northern Freetown. I am married to a man who works in the local area. They have 5 children. Kadiatu started her business to take care of her family. She sells palm oil in a nearby town. Palm oil is heavily relied upon in local homes as it is the base for spicy local (and affordable) stews such as ‘crain-crain’ or ‘rice and cassava leaf’. She works from 8.00 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. and then tends to her family. Even though Kadiatu is proud of her business, it faces challenges from the poor transportation infrastructure in the area. This makes travelling to purchase stock or reach new markets slow and expensive. Kadiatu would like to use this loan to buy palm oil in bulk (by the gallon). This would allow her business to remain profitable. She would like to thank BRAC Sierra Leone and the Kiva lenders for helping her and her business.
