A loan of $1,000 helped to buy two dairy cows.

Deysi Del Carmen's story

Carmen is 42 years old, and left education after the ninth grade. She has a husband, who makes a living as a farmer with the help of their children. She gets up at 4:30 a.m. with her husband to begin her daily jobs.

Carmen works in agriculture, a trade she was taught by her husband. In the morning, they work on their plots of land, which are a 2km walk away. They spend the afternoons milking the cows to sell the milk.

The loan she is requesting is to buy two dairy cows to produce more milk to sell and in this way increase their income.

Carmen plans to use her earnings from selling milk and growing crops, and from the loan to buy cows, to buy a plot of land for her animals to graze on in the future, as she currently only rents land.
