A loan of $175 helped to purchase fertilizer to use on his rice crop.

Saro's story

Saro M., 51, is a farmer who lives in Chrey Krem Village, Phteah Rung Commune, Pursat Province. He is very experienced in this business as he has been farming since 1979. Currently, he earns approximately US$1.50 per day. He is married to Mrs. Ty Nhep, 52, who is a housewife; in other words, Ty stays home to care for their children and to cook food for the family. Indeed, Ty has a difficult task because they have eight children, four of whom are married while the other children are young and attend school.

Unfortunately, Saro's farmland is infertile, so he is in need of a loan in the amount of 700,000 Riel (US$175) to purchase fertilizer to use on his rice crop. Ty hopes the loan will allow him to increase his rice yield above and beyond what it was in previous years. As for his future plan, he wants all of his children to go to university and to get good jobs.
