A loan of $125 helped to pay for efficient and clean cooking energy from Liquefied Petroleum Gas.

Gerald's story

Gerald is a young man, 26 years of age, who is a teacher by profession. Gerald recalls, how in his early age, his family cooked food on firewood and this was never different from the schools he attended. The main form of fuel at the schools was firewood. It was only after school that he commenced to use charcoal as his energy for cooking.

Gerald used charcoal for his cooking needs because it was affordable, available and could be considered as a more affordable energy to educated society at the time. He says that although he had seen Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) at petrol stations, he thought LPG was an energy for the rich and one might still think that this is true if there were no services such as those offered by Kiva.

Gerald is thankful for the Kiva loan and says that it will help him to pay for the LPG accessories, gas, cylinder and the stove.
