A loan of $5,500 helped a member to buy clothing to sell.

Eugenio Espejo (Cuenca) Group's story

The loan group "Eugenio Espejo" consists of 8 women and 1 man, who, thanks to their friendship, have formed this group. They work in various activities such as catalog sales of clothing and cosmetics, commerce, and other activities that allow them to improve the economies of their households. They are hard-working women, and in spite of the adversities that life presents them, they are always ready to give a smile. They live in different areas of the city of Cuenca. This city has a cold climate. It is known as the third most important city of the country economically. Since December 1999, it has been a Cultural Heritage of Humanity site. It has various places for enjoying nature.

One of the members of this group is Señora Blanca. She is a kind, gentle woman who works every day to improve the economic stability of her household. She likes her loan group "Eugenio Espejo" because of the unity that exists among all the members. They are always searching for a better future for family improvement, and she hopes to contribute to this beautiful group, since this is its first loan.

Señora Blanca is 44 years old. She is divorced, but from her marriage she has three children, ages 18, 15, and 9. Her oldest son works and helps her economically. Her second child, a daughter, is in school, and her youngest son attends a little school in the city. She doesn't have her own house, so she rents.

Doña Blanca has been selling food for a little while. She likes this business a lot, and little by little she is obtaining more customers. She also sells clothing. She works every day without a schedule. She is going to invest the money from her loan in the purchase of clothing and to expand her merchandise for her customers. Her dream is to have her own house.

The small photo is of two members who were not able to be present when the group photo was taken.
