A loan of $350 helped to purchase a cow.

Rosa's story

Rosa was born in the Alintuyo neighborhood, is 37 years old, studied up to 6th grade, is married and is the mother of 4 children (2 boys who are 7 years and 6 months and 2 girls who are 17 and 4 years of age). She lives in the Tojocachi neighborhood of the Ilave district in the province of El Collao, Puno.

For the past year she has been a member of the "24 de Junio" Communal Bank in Alintuyo. With her first loan of S/. 300 years she purchased alpaca wool at a cost of S/. 30, 2 little bags of pearl beads at S/.18 to make little braids, and one sheep for S/.180 to be fattened. Rosa lost her mother when she was 14 years old and she assumed the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings because her father drank liquor and now her father is sick (disabled). From the age of 12 she started to make little braids from alpaca wool, at 18 years old she formed her own household and at the present time she works fattening cattle and sheep and at the same time continues with the braid business for which she sells 6 to 10 weekly in the city of Ilave. She has also sold bread since last year.

With this loan of S/.1,000, which will be paid off in 3 installments, she plans to buy one cows to fatten and later sell.

Her dream is to buy a house in the city of Ilave so that her children study in the city and are not in the countryside.
