A loan of $800 helped a member buy ingredients for food preparations.

Benkadi Group's story

The Benkadi group belongs to the Siguikafo association in Tiele. It includes women who became acquainted through kinship and neighborhood ties. They are on average 29 years old, married with two children.

They conduct various activities such as preparing food like Massire, who is the third person standing from right to left in the photo. They live in large traditional families in Tiele, in the Baguineda sub-district (Koulikoro region, Republic of Mali).

They have been running small businesses for several years and are in high demand with their food preparation activities, offering meals with meat, fish, beans, rice, etc.

To satisfy the growing needs of their customers, the group decided six years ago to join the Soro Yiriwaso loan program. They are on their eighth group loan.

Massire plans to use her loan to buy two bags of rice and a large quantity of meat and beans. She resupplies in Bamako and locally, and retails her food preparations in Tiele, for cash and on credit, to a clientele composed of men and women.

She hopes to attain monthly profits of 25,000 CFA francs, which will enable her to repay the loan and reinvest the remainder in her food preparation activities.

In this group: Massire, Koura, Sitan, Sadio, Massan
