A loan of $475 helped to obtain a water pump for irrigation.

Morgan's story

Morgan is 34 years old and is a farmer in Chibombo District, Zambia. Morgan is requesting a loan so that he may obtain a water pump from Rent to Own.

During the dry season in Zambia, Morgan grows and sells vegetables to support his family. Dry season vegetable production is big business for many small farmers in Chibombo District. Using buckets, farmers draw water from nearby wells and streams and produce vegetables to sell in Zambia’s cities.

Despite his age, Morgan is an experienced gardener, selling fresh produce in one of the capital city’s major markets for almost 15 years. He plans to use a water pump to expand his production this year and increase his income.

Rent to Own has completed a business plan with Morgan, and will deliver the water pump directly to his farm. Rent to Own will also provide training on how to properly use and maintain the water pump, and provide on-going support until his loan is complete.

This year Morgan will grow several different high-value vegetables, including green peppers, onions and a local eggplant called “Impwa”.
