A loan of $1,125 helped to expand her restaurant.

Elza Antonia's story

San Miguel de los Bancos is a canton with a hot, humid climate. It is full of kind and hardworking people who traditionally celebrate festivities for the establishment of their canton. This region is a tourist attraction, often visited for its wild flora and fauna. During the Carnival holiday, which happens every year, everyone in this region heads to the Cascada de Amor [Waterfall of Love] to spend a pleasant time with their family.

Señora Elza lives in this area and has a business. She is a woman, age 59, who is a fighter. She is a widow who has three children from her marriage, all of whom are now grown up. She comes from a family with limited financial resources, so she couldn’t educate herself. She has a restaurant; she learned this business on her own. She works an average of 15 hours a day in the restaurant. She has the help of one of her children in the afternoon.

She is asking for this loan to invest in her business, buying assets to increase her clientele. With this new investment they can improve their income and quality of life. Señora Elza is thankful to Fundación Alternativa and Kiva for the support and the opportunities they have given.
