A loan of $650 helped a member to carry on his animals and food sales businesses.

Solidario Group's story

This community bank has three members, all of whom have built successful businesses. The coordinator, Sr. Gloddys, 39, is partnered and the father of three children, 14-, 13-, and 6-years old, respectively. He operates two businesses, raising and butchering pigs for sale and selling nacatamales. He has operated the businesses for 5 years and his wife helps him butcher and sell his pigs. Sr. Gloddys will use part of this loan to buy pigs and the rest to buy the supplies he needs--wraps, string, rice, potatoes, maize, etc.--to make nacatameles. He borrowed money during the last lending cycle and the results of his investment were even better than he hoped, results that he hopes to repeat with this new round of funding. The other members of the community bank are Sra. Esvelida, 46, who has a part-time food-sales business and Sra. Gloribel, 19, who has a clothing and shoes sales business.
