Aliyma's story

Aliyma is 64 years old, married, and the mother of three adult children who are now all independent. Her youngest son and her husband help her run the farming business. Aliyma has a secondary education and she is involved in agriculture and animal husbandry, activities which constitute the main source of income for her family. She started in 1974, and thanks to her persistence and hard work, she now owns two dairy cows, 10 calves, 10 sheep and two horses. Aliyma sells milk and milk products. She makes a total income of about 10,000 som (KGS) per month. In order to further develop her farming business, she has turned to the bank "Bai Tushum and Partners" for a loan of 120,000 som (KGS). She will use her loan to buy some cows and, to a lesser extent, some sheep. Aliyma wants to increase her cattle headcount, which will surely bring more capital for her family. Aliyma is planning to reinvest the earnings from her loan into increasing the size of her cattle sheds. She would also like to buy a truck to go to out to the "jayloo", or summer highland pastures.
