A loan of $175 helped to pay for a more efficient cooking device of liquefied petroleum gas.

Catherine's story

Catherine is a secondary school teacher who lives together with her family. For a long time they have used charcoal as their main source of cooking energy. She says that charcoal is dirty and it takes a long time to cook food.

She says that she understands the cultural needs of cooking traditional foods on charcoal rather than any other fuel. However, she says she had discussed with her husband about the need to have a reliable energy such as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to use during morning rush hours and evening when they return from work.

Although Catherine’s husband had agreed with her, the upfront cost of acquiring it remained a challenge. However, with the Kiva loan, Catherine is delighted that they now have a clean and efficient cooking device from LPG.
