Unity Group-I's story

Meet the members of the “Unity I” group from Koidu, a city in northern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org to apply for a loan of 4,600,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) for the entire group. With the help of this loan they will be able to expand their respective individual businesses, make more sales, and consequently improve their living conditions.

Tewa is the featured leader of this group. The 48-year-old is a widow with 2 children, 1 of whom is in college and the other is not of school going age. Tewa has been a businesswoman for 10 years now. She sells fuel and lubricants. With the help of this loan, she is going to buy petrol, kerosene, engine oil, etc., in large quantities to add to her business.
