A loan of $300 helped to purchase bread, butter, eggs, milk and other food supplies in bulk to sell at a profit to her customers.

Jariatu's story

Please meet Jariatu, a young woman from Kandeh town, a market community near the small and busy southern city of Bo. Jariatu is married to a local trader and supports a two-year-old child.

Jariayu sells bread, butter, eggs, milk and other food supplies from a wooden stall at a busy crossing where people wait for buses and taxis to travel to other towns. It was natural that Jariatu would get into this business as soon as she finished her schooling because she grew up helping her mother in a similar business.

She says her business is going well and she has worked hard to be able to afford to hire an assistant to help her part-time. She would like to use this loan to purchase more bread, butter, eggs, milk and other food supplies in bulk to sell at a profit to her customers. She is ambitious and would like to develop her business so that she can run it from a bigger shop one day.

She says a big thank you to the Kiva community and to the BRAC Sierra Leone community. Their financial support of her business has a really positive impact on her family life with her small child.
