A loan of $2,250 helped a member to purchase nets for fishing.

Esmeralda Group's story

The communal bank "Esmeralda" will begin its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer (Pro Woman). Located in the city center of Achacachi, the group is made up of 8 people and directed by a board of which Victoria is the President. The businesses pursued by the women in the communal bank are varied, including fishing, selling beer, and selling clothing.

The loan requested will be used to benefit micro-business owners in the group of which Victoria forms a part. She notes that this is the first time she has been part of a communal bank. She joined based on the invitation of a counselor from the bank who visited her in her home. Currently she has a small fishing business. She let us know that this was a family business and that when she began living with her partner they decided to work together in this same business.

She will use the loan to increase capital (to purchase nets for fishing) which she will buy from salespeople in the city of El Alto and later install in her fishing locations. This form of work allows her to generate income in order to support her family, since she lives with her partner and has three children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says that she likes the loans offered by the institution.

In this group: Victoria, Bethe Lourdes, Juana, Sabina, Roxana, Esperanza Jacinta , Ximena, Orlando
