A loan of $5,800 helped a member to buy hardware items.

Nueva Generación (Cuenca) Group's story

The credit group Nueva Generación (New Generation) is made up of 15 women who are friends and acquaintances and live in the city of Cuenca. This is the third most important city in Ecuador economically and is rich in natural, cultural and architectural resources. Its varied cuisine appeals to locals and foreign visitors alike, and its people are cultured and kind.

The group's members are happy, charismatic, and hard-working women, who engage in a variety of daily activities which allow them to contribute financially to their households and thus get ahead. One of the group's members, Digna, joined the Nueva Generacion credit group two years ago, during which time she has formed strong friendships with all of the members. She is 36 years old, married and has two children who are 18 and 21 years old and are students at a local school. Her husband works as a mechanic in his own shop, and they own their home.

Digna has had her own hardware store for the past three years. She works from Monday to Saturday with no set schedule. She has also been selling Omnilife natural products for the past two years. The work she does allows her to spend time with her family. The money from the loan is to buy items for her hardware store. Her goal is to travel to different parts of the world.
