A loan of $650 helped to buy 2 washing machines, a photocopier and a computer.

Martha's story

Martha is 52 years old. She rents washing machines and offers internet access, photocopy and scanner services in her own home located in the city of Barranquilla. Two years ago she was inspired by this enterprising idea with the goal of answering the need to increase the income of her household, made up of her husband and 3 adult children. She also wanted to feel busy. So she observed the needs of her neighborhood as far as what services were being offered. She decide to fill the need for washing, photocopying and printing.

Today she gets up very early and opens her shop to attend to her clients which are her neighbors and others passing through the area. Her goal is to expand her business daily. So she has come to Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, with the goal of obtaining a loan through Kiva. She will use it to buy 2 washing machines, a photocopier and a computer. She will have more capacity to provide better service, increase her profits and not have her clients have to wait. The Kiva loan will solve her problem of not having enough capital to make this investment.
