A loan helped to buy welding supplies.

Oumar's story

Mr. Oumar, age 37, lives with his spouse and his three children in a nuclear family in N'tentou, in Ouelessebougou Subprefecture (Koulikoro Region, Republic of Mali).

Oumar never had a chance to go to school. Early on, he got interested in welding, a business he learned from his mother's brother, who once was a famous welder in Ouelessebougou.

Eager to satisfy his rapidly growing clientele, Oumar decided to work with Kiva's partner, Soro Yiriwaso. Having repaid his second loan, he is now seeking his third personal loan, to be used to buy welding supplies from wholesalers in Bamako.

He then transforms them into doors and windows that he sells in Ouelessebougou, on credit or for cash, to a mixed-gender clientele.

Oumar hopes to turn an average monthly profit of XOF 100'00, to be used in part to repay the loan. The remainder will be reinvested in his welding business.
