A loan of $525 helped to buy 15 sacks of rice.

Dounamba's story

Dounamba was born in 1969 in Dialakoro. She lives with her spouse and five children in a traditional family in Dalabala, subprefecture of Kangaré (Sikasso Region, Republic of Mali).

Dounamba never got a chance to go to school. Early on, she got interested in money-earning businesses, in particular buying, stocking, and selling cereals such as maize and rice.

Eager to meet a strongly growing customer demand, she decided five years ago to collaborate with Soro Yiriwaso. After having repaid her fifth loan, she's now seeking her sixth personal loan, which she will use to buy 15 sacks of rice from farmer producers in Dalabala and surroundings. She will stock the rice for at least three months.

She sells mostly to a clientele made up of resellers coming from the large cities, such as Bamako and Sélingué. She hopes to turn an average monthly profit of XOF 90'000, to be in part used to help her husband provide for the family's needs, and in part reinvested in her business.
