A loan of $1,100 helped to buy feed for chickens and pigs and to pay laborers to help prepare fields for planting.

Gladys Jacinta's story

In the city of Portoviejo, the capital of Manabí, known for many years as the city of the royal tamarinds, there is a group called "Virgen of Monserrate Credit Group" that meets every two weeks. Gladys lives in this city and is part of that group. She is 59 years old, is married, and has four children who are older and live independently. Her husband works in agriculture.

Gladys is a very good mother and housewife and she works raising chickens and pigs. When the animals are ready for sale she offers them to merchants. Her husband works in agriculture and they have cacao crops as well as winter corn and peanuts. Currently they are working on preparing for planting and that is why they have need of credit.

This loan will be used to buy feed for the chickens and pigs as well as for paying for laborers who will help prepare the fields for planting. Gladys has been with the communal bank and the credit group described above since its inception. Her dream is to have good health for herself and her loved ones.
