A loan of $1,675 helped to buy seeds to be able to plant another hectare of cocoa.

Fausto Eduardo's story

Fausto Eduardo is 65 years old and lives together with his wife and three grandchildren who are dependent on him. He provides for their education as their mother abandoned them. He lives in the city of Santo Domingo de los Colorados, a very productive and commercial place.

Fourteen years ago Fausto had to emigrate to another country due to a lack of work. At that time he had bought a working farm and he had to pay for it. He worked for 12 years as a gardener and pruning plants. Two years ago he finished paying his debt and returned to his country to be with his family.

Today his farm produces cocoa, bananas, passion fruit, and malanga (a tropical edible plant). Things are going well although some of his plants are diseased and he is treating them.

Fausto needs money to plant another hectare of cocoa and passion fruit so that the loss of his plants will not affect his production. So he has come to Fundación Alternativa as he has heard good things about the institution. He is grateful for the support offered by Fundación Alternativa and Kiva as he can improve his income.
