Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $875 helped to buy feed for her dairy cattle.

Sonia's story

Sonia is 35 years old and completed high school. She has a young son who depends on her income. She lives in the house that she inherited from her parents. Sonia makes a living selling cheeses in the centre of Cochabamba city. Sonia works very hard to in order to help her son to prosper - he is at school and receives very good grades; he also helps to feed the cattle. Sonia has five dairy cows. The father of Sonia's son left her when he learned that she was pregnant. Since then Sonia has learned to get ahead through her own sacrifice.

Sonia is applying for this loan in order to be able to buy feed for her dairy cattle. With constant rain, there is little food around and it is becoming more and more difficult to find feed. With this loan Sonia will continue with her work and will manage to earn an income to cover family costs.
