A loan of $14,725 helped to purchase 5 hectares of land so that they can start a new poultry farm.

Herberton's story

Herberton and Steve are entrepreneurs. Herberton runs a poultry farm in Southern Rwanda selling eggs and chicken for meat. Steve runs a transportation company, which buys from Herberton's farm and sells the products to Congolese refugees in Southwestern Rwanda.

Now Herberton and Steve are forming a joint venture, a new poultry farm in Rwanda's Eastern Providence. As part of a larger poultry initiative by the Rwanda Development Board, Herberton and Steve's new Lake Shore Poultry Farm is up for consideration for a large investment from a Dutch company. In order to participate in this larger opportunity, Herberton and Steve need to purchase 5 hectares of flat farmland in the Eastern Province.

A loan from Kiva would enable Herberton and Steve to join this larger project of six other companies and an international investor. Herberton and Steve have already identified the land, will purchase it with Kiva's funding, and will sell it to the larger collective in exchange for joint ownership of the project.

As young entrepreneurs, this is an opportunity of a lifetime, but without Kiva's support Herberton and Steve would miss out because they would never receive commercial financing for a new project like this. Thank you for your support!
