A loan of $600 helped to buy fertilizer and machetes, pay the rent on the land and to pay for labor.

Santos Sixto's story

Santos is 39 years old and only studied up to Grade 2 in the local school. He is single, has no children and lives with his parents and 3 siblings. No one is dependent on him. He grows basic grains like corn and beans. He has been a farmer for 25 years. His parents taught him to do this when he was young as he had no other productive activity. Today he is thankful to his parents as he does this work for himself. He has no other work than in agriculture. He has always worked as day labor. The place where he works is 25 minutes from his house and he gets there by walking. He works with his brothers to get the maximum quantity of plants and make their work more profitable.

Santos needs a loan to buy fertilizer for his crops as it is cheaper now. He will also buy machetes, pay the rent on the land he farms and pay for labor to prepare the land. His dreams are to re-forest a water source that his mother owns, buy a cow to provide for the household needs and he also hopes to clear part of the land that he has to plant vegetables.
